Make Ready User Guide

Everything you need to run matches with the Make Ready platform — from creating a match on the website to scoring on a tablet.

1. Getting Started

Create an Account

  1. Go to makereadyapp.com.
  2. Click Sign In in the top right.
  3. Choose Sign Up and enter your email and a password.
  4. Check your email for a confirmation link and click it.
  5. Complete your profile — name, IDPA/USPSA numbers if you have them.

Click Sign In at the top right of any page. Enter the email and password you used when signing up.

Your Dashboard

Once signed in, you'll see a Dashboard link in the nav bar. The dashboard shows matches you're registered for, matches you're directing, and your club memberships.

2. Creating a Match

Web App — Match Directors

  1. From your Dashboard, click Create Match.
  2. Fill in the match details — name, date, time, venue, sport (IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, or PCSL), and which divisions are offered.
  3. Add stages manually — click "Add Stage" and enter the stage name, target count, and scoring details for your sport.
  4. Import from PractiSim Designer — if you designed your match in PractiSim, upload the PDF and stages will be imported automatically.
  5. Add 5x5 Classifier (IDPA only) — click the "Add 5x5 Classifier" button to add the standard IDPA classifier stage.
  6. Use the arrow buttons to reorder stages as needed.
  7. Set entry fees and registration options.
  8. Click Publish to make the match visible to shooters.
Tip: You can save a match as a draft and come back to finish it later. Unpublished matches are only visible to you.

3. Managing Registrations

Web App — Match Directors

  1. Open your match from the Dashboard and go to the MD Admin page.
  2. The Registrations tab shows everyone who has signed up, with their division, classification, and member numbers.
  3. Approve or decline registrations as needed.
  4. Use the Squads tab to assign shooters to squads. You can drag shooters between squads or use the Move dropdown.
  5. On match day, use the check-in feature to mark shooters as present.

4. Installing the Scoring App

Mobile App

  1. On your tablet or Android phone, open a browser and go to makereadyapp.com/download.
  2. Tap the download button to get the APK file.
  3. Open the downloaded file to install. If your device asks you to enable "Install from Unknown Sources," follow the on-screen instructions to allow it — this is normal for apps not from the Play Store.
  4. Once installed, open the Make Ready app.
Tip: The app works great on Amazon Fire tablets — that's what most clubs use. Any Android device will work too.

5. Setting Up for Match Day

Mobile App — Match Directors

  1. Open the Make Ready app on your tablet.
  2. Tap Master Pad and sign in with the same email and password you use on the website.
  3. You'll see your upcoming matches. Tap the match you want to run.
  4. Tap Download Match to pull all match data (stages, squads, shooters) from the server to the tablet.
  5. Your match is now on the tablet and ready to score — even without internet.
Tip: Download the match the night before or at least when you have good Wi-Fi. Once downloaded, you don't need internet until you upload scores.

6. Scoring a Match

Mobile App — Range Officers & Match Directors

  1. From the match overview, tap Squads.
  2. Select the squad you're scoring and tap Start Scoring.
  3. Select the stage to score.
  4. Set the shooting order — sort by name, randomize, or manually drag to reorder.
  5. Tap a shooter's name to score them.

IDPA Scoring

Enter the shooter's time, then mark points down for each target. Add any penalties — PE (Procedural Error), HNT (Hit on Non-Threat), FTN (Failure to Neutralize), FP (Flagrant Penalty), or FTDR (Failure to Do Right).

USPSA Scoring

Enter the shooter's time, then tap the zone buttons (A, C, D, M, NS) for each target. Mark any steel misses separately.

Steel Challenge Scoring

Enter the time for each of the 5 strings. Mark misses for each string if applicable. The app automatically drops the slowest string.

After Scoring

Disqualifications (DQ)

Tap DQ, select the provision (reason), and confirm. A DQ does not require the shooter's approval.

7. Viewing Results (Mobile)

  1. From the match overview, tap Results.
  2. Choose Overall for combined results or select a specific stage.
  3. Filter by squad if needed.

Results compile automatically — there's no manual step to calculate them.

8. Uploading Scores to Cloud

Mobile App — Match Directors

  1. From the match overview, tap the Server card (or "Sync to Cloud").
  2. Tap Upload Scores.
  3. Scores are sent to the cloud and results auto-publish on the website.
  4. Shooters can now view their results at makereadyapp.com.
Tip: You'll need an internet connection to upload. Connect to Wi-Fi or use your phone's hotspot.

9. Viewing Results (Web)

Web App — Shooters & Match Directors

  1. Go to the match page on makereadyapp.com and click the Results tab.
  2. Filter results by division, classification, or category.
  3. For IDPA matches with a 5x5 Classifier, you can export results as an XLSX file for IDPA submission.

10. Editing Scores

Web App — Match Directors

  1. Open your match from the Dashboard and go to MD Admin.
  2. Go to the Edit Scores section.
  3. Select the stage and squad.
  4. Edit any score directly in the table.
  5. Click Save when done. Changes are reflected immediately in results.

11. Tips & Troubleshooting

The app doesn't show my matches

Make sure you're signed in as Master Pad with the same account you used on the website. If you have multiple accounts, check that you're using the right one.

Scoring buttons feel slow

This is normal on older Fire tablets — the hardware is limited. Your scores are still saved correctly. Just wait for the button press to register before tapping again.

Need to re-download a match

On your tablet, go to Settings → Apps → Make Ready → Clear Data. Then open the app and download the match again.

Steel Challenge classification

Classification percentage appears after all 5 strings have been entered. You won't see it until the stage is fully scored.

IDPA 5x5 classification

The classification result shows below the score summary once the classifier stage is scored.
